The Norwegian national team's assistant coach and player manager, Brede Hangeland, has written in a book, which the newspaper VG has read, about what happened before this summer's World Cup quarter-final against England.

When Solbakken found out that the players had been given free rein by other national team officials after the World Cup - and that Erling Braut Haaland, Martin Ødegaard and Sander Berge were planning to go straight on holiday - he became angry that the officials had not consulted him. He then called the players into a private meeting.

"Ståle is clear: We are going to Oslo - together. The holiday starts then," Hangeland writes in the book.

Haaland accompanied him to the Palace and the meeting with the royal family, but had to skip the motorcade through Oslo.
