Six people in the same family are sentenced to prison for gross benefit fraud committed between 2016 and 2020.

The father in the family was entitled to personal assistance and his adult children and a son-in-law were employed as his personal assistants by Södertälje Municipality.

According to the district court's verdict, the family members have intentionally and to a large extent submitted incorrect time reports to the municipality and have thereby received incorrect payments of assistance allowance totaling over 5.6 million kronor.

"It is a matter of systematic and extensive criminal activity that has been carried out over a long period of time. It has targeted an important part of the welfare system and can therefore be described as system-threatening", says Chief Judge Claes Söderqvist according to a press release from the district court.
