It was on Sunday evening, Swedish time, that Söderqvist crashed with three kilometres left to ride in the time trial in Canada, most likely because of gravel on the road.
"He turns around, picks up the bike before we even have time to get to him and jumps on again. But it easily takes 15, maybe over 20 seconds," says coach Alexander Wetterhall in a press release from the Swedish Cycling Federation.
The Swede finished fifth - around 13 seconds from bronze and just over 29 seconds from silver.
Belgian Remco Evenepoel was superior and took his fourth consecutive World Cup gold in the time trial.
