All travelers from countries like Sweden should be forced to show their social media history and all phone numbers they have used in recent years. This is what the Trump administration is proposing.

The proposal covers travelers from 42 countries within the Esta system, an electronic entry permit that eliminates the need to apply for a full-scale visa.

But the requirements for entering with Esta need to be tightened considerably, according to the proposals that US authorities have now published.

Among the information you will need to provide are social media accounts, phone numbers and email addresses, both private and professional, that you have used in the last five years.

This is stated in a document published by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Tuesday. DHS invites “the public and interested parties” in the US to comment on the proposals within two months. It is not clear when the measures could then come into effect.
