The Social Democrats are demanding that the Swedish government summon Israel's ambassador to Sweden in connection with the decision to expand Israeli control over the West Bank.

"These decisions represent a step towards a de facto annexation of the West Bank, which violates all UN resolutions and international law," Johansson (S), foreign policy spokesperson, says.

Israel's security cabinet on Sunday approved rules and measures that are expected to strengthen Israeli control over areas in the occupied West Bank. Among other things, Jewish citizens will be allowed to buy land in the area.

"It aims to annex land that you have no right to. We demand that the Israeli ambassador be summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," Johansson says.

Sweden, as well as EU Foreign Affairs Chief Kaja Kallas, has condemned Israel's decision and pointed out that it complicates the path to a two-state solution.

The Social Democrats (S) also demand that the export of military equipment from Sweden to Israel, which has increased to 21 million kronor in 2024, cease.

"It is offensive that we continue to even increase these deliveries," Johansson says.
