The vote for Speaker will take place on Monday in connection with the opening of the new Riksdag.
Moderate Party leader Andreas Norlén has held the post since the 2018 election.
He is a Moderate and the proposal from the Tidö parties. We backed him last term because we did not want a Sweden Democrat. There is no reason whatsoever for us not to have someone from the new majority, says Hallengren.
Joint candidate
According to her, the new speaker must be a Social Democrat.
We are by far the largest party and the principle has always been that you go in order of size. This also applies to the first, second and third deputy speakers.
It is unclear whether the red-green parties, S, C, V and MP, will agree on a joint candidate for speaker. It is also unclear whether Norlén will actually be nominated and whether the four Tidö parties can rally behind him.
The Red-Greens have also agreed to form a cartel in the Riksdag to secure majorities in all parliamentary committees. Without a cartel, they would not have had as much influence. This is a negotiation that has taken place between the group leaders of each party.
“Time has taken its toll”
Hallengren gives as an example that in a committee with 17 seats, the red-greens get nine seats and Tidö eight. The Riksdag also has bodies such as the EU Committee, the Riksdag Executive Board, the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Swedish Central Bank General Council. They have also been discussed.
"For us, it is completely obvious to act in this way. There have been no difficult negotiations, we agree that Tidö has done its part," she says.
Who will be the chair of each committee has not yet been discussed.
