I expect Romina Pourmokhtari to submit her resignation application, says Anna-Caren Sätherberg, The Moderate Party's environmental and agricultural policy spokesperson.
This should happen no later than Monday when the government's budget is presented, according to The Moderate Party.
This is her promise to the Swedish people, then you stand upright.
Sätherberg refers to the government's own climate report, which shows that Sweden will miss the EU's climate target 2030.
Has been optimistic
The gap to the EU targets for transport and agriculture 2030 is 5.8 million tons of carbon dioxide, but if one includes the measures proposed in the budget for 2026, the gap decreases to 4.3 million tons by 2030. The government's proposal is thus not enough.
Romina Pourmokhtari has been optimistic about achieving the targets.
"If I do not stand for the policy that we are going to implement, then it would be dishonest of me to remain seated", she has said in an interview.
In another interview from 2024, Pourmokhtari said that she will resign if "we move further away from Sweden's climate targets, and if emissions increase with me as climate minister."
The government's last budget
When the new emission figures became known, Pourmokhtari said that The Liberals have a policy that lives up to the EU's climate targets but that the solutions presented have not been accepted by the other parties.
This is the government's last budget and emissions will increase with this budget. Therefore, I expect her to stand by her word, says Sätherberg.
When asked if The Moderate Party will raise a vote of no confidence against the minister if she does not resign, Sätherberg replies that it is a card that the party uses very sparingly.
