Soaring gas prices make Europe's coal-fired power plants profitable again

The war in Iran has driven up gas prices to levels not seen since the war in Ukraine began in 2022. This means that Europe's coal-fired power plants, which have long struggled with profitability, are now making a profit.

According to the news agency, the equivalent of 22 GW of power (about the output of 22 nuclear reactors) from coal-fired power plants could be put into production if current economic conditions persist.
