According to the civil lawsuit filed by the four women last week, the alleged crimes were committed between 2007 and 2024. The housekeepers claim that Robinson waited until he was alone with them in his home, and then raped and sexually exploited them.
The women are demanding $50 million in damages.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles police says in a statement that the investigation is still in its early stages.
The 85-year-old Motown singer's lawyers deny the allegations and call them "abhorrent" and "false".
Smokey Robinson's wife, Frances Robinson, is also named in the lawsuit and accused of maintaining a hostile work environment.
