The incident occurred on Friday evening, when the pilots were forced to land the plane - which was bound for Stockholm - at Billund Airport in Denmark.
"It's standard procedure when something like this happens. It was a normal landing without drama," SAS press officer Alexandra Lindgren Kaoukji told the newspaper.
The plane took off from London. The cause of the smoke smell is unknown.
