SMHI has issued an orange warning for strong winds and snowfall during the Christmas holidays for parts of the mountains in Norrbotten and Västerbotten counties.

From Christmas Eve until 10 a.m. on Christmas Day, strong winds are expected, while snow flurries are moving in over the mountains. Locally, storm-force winds may occur.

SMHI advises against staying in the mountains as visibility is expected to be poor and it may be difficult to find your way around. "Do not go out into the mountains unnecessarily," writes SMHI.

In addition, a yellow warning has been issued for the mountains in southern Västerbotten and northern Jämtland counties. It is in effect from 10 p.m. on Christmas Eve and all day on Christmas Day. Here, too, those who are not used to it are advised to cancel their mountain trip.
