The area covered by the warning extends from around Hudiksvall, north of Gävle, to Södertälje and Eskilstuna further south.
SMHI (the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute) warns that trees and branches may be blown down and block roads. Disruptions to public transport and possibly to electricity and telecommunications networks are also expected.
Wind gusts could reach 18–22 metres per second, and up to 25 metres per second along the coast, reaching storm force.
"Anchor or secure loose objects, such as your trampoline and garden furniture. Keep in mind that temporary structures such as scaffolding can also be blown away," SMHI writes.
The warning is in effect until Friday afternoon.
It rained and was windy in several places overnight into Friday.
88 millimetres of rain have fallen in the Gävle area over the past 24 hours, causing flooding in several parts of central Gävle, writes Gefle Dagblad. Several accidents have occurred in the area and trees have fallen across roads, according to the newspaper.
The rain has also caused problems in Eskilstuna, where motorists have been forced to drive through floodwater in several places, writes Ekuriren.
