There is a great or very great risk of grass fires and forest fires around the country, according to the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute.

On Thursday and Friday, there is a great or very great risk of grass fires during the day in the northern and central parts of Norrland, northwestern Dalarna, and in the southern parts of Jämtland County.

In large parts of Götaland and southwestern Svealand, SMHI also warns of a great or very great risk of forest fires.

Partly because it's quite dry, partly because it's also quite windy, says Toni Fuentes, duty meteorologist at SMHI, to TT.

The public is urged to be cautious when lighting fires and working outdoors, and to check if there is a fire ban in effect where they are.

Already on Monday, there were warnings of grass and forest fires around the country, and according to SMHI, the warnings may persist in the coming days.

Rain will mainly affect the eastern parts of the country, so it's likely that there will continue to be a great risk of grass and forest fires in the western parts for a while, says Toni Fuentes.
