A heavy rain- and thunderstorm is moving in over the country after the Midsummer weekend. In several places there is a risk of flooding. It is a large area that is included, says Marie Staerk, duty meteorologist at SMHI.

The yellow warning – which applies from 17 on Monday – stretches from Västervik on the east coast via Linköping, Norrköping, Örebro, Eskilstuna, Västerås and further up to Falun.

The low pressure begins over Kalmar county and moves slowly north during the evening and night. After 3 o'clock tonight, the intensity has decreased, says Marie Staerk, duty meteorologist at SMHI.

According to SMHI, it can come 30-50 millimeters of rain in some places in a short time. This means a risk of flooding in basements and stormwater systems as well as on roads and in viaducts.

It applies especially in the cities where stormwater wells do not have time to absorb the amount of water in a short time, says Marie Staerk.

But there are large local variations. In some places, it will come to almost nothing at all, in other places it will come a lot of rain.

Monday offers rain in other parts of the country as well: for example on the West Coast and in Skåne, Blekinge and Norrland.

Already now, the rain has begun to move in over the western parts of Götaland and Svealand. It will pass some showers and even on Tuesday it is still quite rainy, says Marie Staerk.
