On Saturday, SMHI is warning of heavy and persistent showers in inner and eastern Östergötland. The storm could bring 60-80 millimeters of rain in a short time, according to SMHI, which has issued an orange warning.
During the afternoon and evening there are indications that there may be extra heavy rain in this area. When such large amounts of rain fall in a short time, it can be very difficult, says Marie Staerk, meteorologist on duty at SMHI.
Move objects
SMHI recommends, among other things, that people in affected areas move objects that are at risk of being damaged during flooding, avoid driving through bodies of water and clear gutters, stormwater drains and other waterways.
By lunchtime, heavy rain had already reached Östergötland. Several alerts about water damage were received simultaneously by the rescue services, who were unable to help everyone immediately.
There was simply a lot coming in at the same time. There is no way to help everyone at once, as a property owner you have to take your own responsibility and do what you can, says Lennart Ågren, duty officer at the Östra Götaland Rescue Service.
Private homes, restaurants and businesses in Norrköping are affected. The emergency services are on site to pump out water at several addresses.
Power failure
SMHI also has yellow warnings for torrential rain in northwestern Götaland and parts of southern Svealand from Saturday morning. Up to 30-60 millimeters of rain can fall in a short time, combined with a lot of thunder.
There is a major power outage in Tjörn and Orust, affecting over 14,000 customers at 1 p.m. It is unclear what the cause is and whether it is related to the storm.
