The warning applies to the municipalities of Luleå, Älvsbyn, Boden, Kalix and Överkalix in eastern Norrbotten County. The warning has been extended and is currently in effect until 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Locally, there may be between 70 and 100 millimetres of rain.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to seal their basements or move objects that are at risk of water damage, SMHI writes on its website. In addition, waterways such as gutters and stormwater drains should be cleared so that water can drain away.
There is also a risk of flooding on roads and viaducts. Drivers are advised to avoid driving through bodies of water.
