A music agency announced on Thursday afternoon, local time, that three of its employees died in the plane crash.
"Our thoughts are with their families and with all those affected by today's tragedy," says the company in a statement.
Earlier, the authorities in San Diego had announced that two people had died in the crash. A total of six people were on board when the plane crashed.
Several people on the ground were also injured, including five people in the same family who suffered smoke injuries and three people with other minor injuries, according to Anthony Carrasco at the local police at a press conference.
The plane, a Cessna 550, hit several residential buildings when it crashed, according to the authorities. The accident investigators are investigating whether the plane flew into a power line.
Several residential buildings began to burn and the roof collapsed on a building. About a dozen cars were also damaged.
I can't really describe in words how the site looked, but with the aviation fuel flowing along the street and everything on fire at the same time, it was a terrifying sight, says police chief Scott Wahl.
The incident occurred just before 3:50 am on Thursday, local time.
The residential area is intended for military families. At least 100 people have been evacuated to a school.
