Video clips circulating on social media show wreckage from the aircraft falling to the ground.
It is Beijing's tallest building, the 109-story China Zun skyscraper, which rises just over 520 meters above the ground.
According to CNN, people have evacuated the building while a large contingent of firefighters, police and ambulances have arrived. Debris has fallen on a taxi, among other things.
Judging by pictures of the plane's license plate, it appears to be a light sport aircraft belonging to a local company.
