The drunkenness scandal received widespread attention during the Olympics and Medved was sent home.

When he sobered up and the consequences of his behavior sank in, the Slovenian was remorseful.

"I made a mistake and I am very sorry. I want to apologize to the entire Finnish team, the athletes and the fans," he told the newspaper Iltalehti.

Several Finnish ski jumpers do not want Medved to remain as coach. The federation is expected to announce shortly that Medved will be leaving.

- "I will not comment on the matter at this stage," union president Peter Kukkonen told Yle.
