Liverpool manager Arne Slot says he was surprised by Mohamed Salah's performance this weekend. My reaction is also clear - he's not here, Slot says at a press conference.

Questions about Mohamed Salah's performance this weekend were thrown at the official press conference ahead of Liverpool's in-form Champions League away match against Inter on Tuesday.

It was after Salah was benched for the third consecutive match in this weekend's Premier League meeting with Leeds that the move came. Among other things:

It feels like the club has thrown me under the bus.

After that performance, the Egyptian star is not in Liverpool's squad against Inter. Monday's press conference was the first time that Arne Slot commented on what Salah said.

The Dutch coach was asked if he believes Salah has played his last game for Liverpool:

I have no idea. I strongly believe that there is always a chance for a player to come back.

Slot says he has not spoken to Salah after the incident and when asked if he believes the criticism is directed at him, he says:

I don't really know what he means and who it is against. He has the right to react, but not in front of the media, at least not without us as a club reacting. Usually I am calm and polite, but that doesn't mean I am weak, says Arne Slot.

The Premier League champions have had a tough season, only finishing ninth in the league and 13th in the Champions League.
