Analysts had expected an average of 120,000 new jobs in May, according to a Bloomberg compilation of forecasts.

In April, 105,000 new jobs were created in the sector, according to revised ADP figures. Previous estimates showed 109,000 new jobs in April.

The ADP figures come ahead of the US Department of Labor's Nonfarm Payrolls report on employment and unemployment for the entire US economy, excluding the agricultural sector.
