Of the students who graduated from high school in the spring, 84.1 percent were eligible for a national program at the upper secondary school, compared to 83.7 percent at the same time last year, according to new statistics from the National Agency for Education.
The 15.9 percent who did not have upper secondary school eligibility when they graduated from elementary school correspond to up to 19,700 students.
The improvement this year compared to 2024 is explained by the fact that eligibility has increased among foreign-born students. The National Agency for Education has pointed out this trend before, and the pattern continues with this year's final grades.
Over time, girls have had a higher proportion of eligible students than boys. But the difference has decreased and was in the spring the smallest since the current grading scale was introduced. In a similar way, the difference in merit value - average grade - has also decreased. The girls' merit value has decreased and the boys' has increased - a trend that the National Agency for Education has pointed out before.
