From July 1, the price of SL's monthly pass will be reduced to 530 SEK, thanks to a government subsidy of 6.5 billion SEK.

To ensure that loyal travelers who have purchased an annual pass or 90-day ticket do not lose out because of the reform, SL proposes that they be allowed to redeem the remaining time on their ticket.

By switching to the subsidized monthly card, a traveler with an annual card can save 400 SEK per month. The offer applies to the approximately 16,000 private individuals who have paid for their cards themselves, and also includes tickets that run into 2027.

SL expects some loss of revenue but believes that the measure will create goodwill. How the buybacks will be implemented in practice is not yet clear.
