The bus that hit a bus shelter at the Stockholm Institute of Technology on Friday with fatal consequences had been inspected and had been serviced. The brake pads had been replaced a week ago, confirms Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL).

It was in such a condition that it was allowed to run in SL traffic. It had been inspected and had gone through the various procedures that we required for a bus to run in SL traffic, says the company's press manager Andreas Strömberg to SVT Nyheter.

The brakes on the bus had been replaced a week ago.

"It is also information I received from the operator that brake pads, for example, have been replaced," he says.

The operator Transdev runs the current route for SL. After the incident, SL is in direct contact with Transdev at all times, according to Strömberg.

The bus driver suspected of causing death and causing bodily harm is no longer under arrest.

We support Transdev in their employer responsibility. They have support for their employees, if the person is now free, he will certainly receive all opportunities for support, says SL's press officer.

An event like Friday's is very unusual, according to SL, which wants to reassure worried travelers.

–This type of accident is unique. I understand that as a traveler you may be worried after an incident like this, but we have a high level of safety awareness, Strömberg tells SVT.
