The cleaning company found the skull in the tiled stove along with trash and candle remains, which Motala Vadstena Tidning was first to report. The company, which was hired by a deceased estate, called the police and the skull has been seized.
"Now we are waiting for the age to be determined. At first glance it looked very old," says Mats Pettersson, press spokesperson for the Eastern Police Region.
The police have filed a report of trespassing. But when and how the skull ended up in the home is unknown.
But I am careful to point out that there are no other suspicions of crimes, says Mats Pettersson.
According to one report, the skull may come from a museum, but this has not been confirmed.
"It sounds likely, of course. We know that information and we have it, but it's nothing we can confirm now," says Mats Pettersson.
