The International Ice Hockey Federation has banned Russia from participating in tournaments since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. On Friday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) overturned the ban.
Half of the 16 teams set to compete in the men's World Cup in Germany in May are refusing to play against Russia, and several sponsors have expressed dissatisfaction with the CAS decision.
Now, perhaps the biggest sponsor is doing the same.
Škoda, the World Cup's main sponsor for more than 30 years, told the AP by email that it would reconsider its sponsorship if Russia participates.
"Given that Russia's aggression continues, we believe that the Russian national team's return to the World Cup is incompatible with the values we stand for," Škoda wrote.
Swedish furniture company AJ has announced that it will remove its logos from the rinks during the World Cup.
