"The person is said to have been skiing in a gully and fallen. It is very steep terrain and the person is said to have fallen several hundred meters down the mountainside before he stopped," the Norwegian police write on their website.
The person is said to be seriously injured, a person at the Northern Norway Main Rescue Center tells Nettavisen.
The person has been taken by a rescue helicopter to Tromsø. Piggtinden is 1,050 meters high and is located in the southern part of the Lyngen Alps, southeast of Tromsø.
