Ski Star's Coach Seriously Injured in Car Accident

Former national team coach Mattias Nilsson, 40 years old, is being cared for in hospital with severe injuries after a car accident. It's tragic. I'm keeping my fingers crossed every day for it to go well, says Calle Halfvarsson to Expressen.

Mattias Nilsson was until the spring the Swedish Ski Association's coach on site in Falun, but left the assignment to focus on a civilian career.

He is, however, still the coach for national team skiers Calle Halfvarsson, Emil Danielsson, and Eric Rosjö.

In late October, Mattias Nilsson collided with a truck outside Sala and was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He is still in hospital and his condition is described as serious but stable. According to Expressen, he has, among other things, suffered fractures in both his legs.

This is, of course, very sad and unsettling. Mattias has through all the years been extremely appreciated in the skiing family, both among skiers and leaders, says the association's cross-country chief Lars Öberg.
