It was one evening in May last year that the girl fell and hit the back of her head. She was vomiting and tired, but the parents chose to contact the medical service only the next day - when their daughter no longer showed any signs of life.
They were charged with aggravated manslaughter.
But according to Skellefteå District Court, it has not been proven that the parents understood that the girl's condition was life-threatening and that they acted negligently.
"Even the healthcare system has difficulty correctly estimating the severity of head injuries in young children," the district court points out.
