Bill Skarsgård has the lead role in the American director Gus van Sant's ”Dead man's wire”, Rebecca Ferguson in the also American ”A house of dynamite”. Alicia Vikander is one of the faces outwards in the American-English-French ”The wizard of the Kremlin” and Noomi Rapace in the French ”Mother”, where Film i Väst also has a finger in the game.
The only all-Swedish production that is shown is the short film ”Without Kelly”, directed by Lovisa Sirén. On the other hand, Denmark has got a feature film in the main section – Anders Thomas Jensen's ”The last viking” with Mads Mikkelsen, Nikolas Lie Kaas and Sofie Gråbøl is shown out of competition. In the main section, ”Dead man's wire” is also shown, as well as the thriller ”After the hunt" with Julia Roberts.
The competition program is strong. There, among other things, ”The wizard of the Kremlin” with Jude Law as Putin, ”Frankenstein” directed by Guillermo del Toro and ”A house of dynamite”, which is Kathryn Bigelow's first film since 2017, can be found.
In the documentary section, Sofia Coppola's ”Marc” (about Marc Jacobs) and Werner Herzog's ”Ghost elephants” are shown. Herzog and Kim Novak will also be awarded this year's honorary prizes for long and faithful service.
The festival starts on August 27 and ends on September 6.
