Only four times before has the Treasure of European Film Culture award been presented in Sweden. Hovs Hallar from "The Seventh Seal", the Bergman Center on Fårö, Tjolöholm Castle from Lars von Trier’s "Melancholia", and the film studios in Gamla Filmstaden are also on the list.
The Skandia Cinema, designed by Gunnar Asplund, was inaugurated in 1923. It is now run by the Stockholm Film Festival and was included in Time Out's list of the world's 100 most beautiful cinemas this spring.
The award will be celebrated at Bio Skandia on April 29.
