The Swedish swimming star's comeback after becoming a mother is sensational.
Already during this morning's heats, Sjöström swam a very good 25.31. In the evening final, the 32-year-old managed to cut that by over two tenths to 25.05 at the classic Settecolli meet in Rome.
The result was enough for second place in the event. The winner was American Gretchen Walsh, who touched in 24.51, just eight hundredths of a second off the world record that Sarah Sjöström has held for almost twelve years.
Settecolli is Sjöström's second competition since her successful comeback in April. At home in Stockholm, she swam only the 50 meters freestyle.
The competition in Italy is her rehearsal for the European Championships in August.
