SJ is now forced to pay almost 1.5 million kronor in fines according to a decision from the Transport Administration, reports Expressen. This after SJ failed to deliver punctuality and sufficient comfort on the night trains between Stockholm and Östersund.

Of the fine money, 1.3 million kronor is due to the fact that the trains' toilets or showers have been out of order a total of 265 times during the first quarter of the year. In addition, SJ is said to have failed to keep the timetable on the route on several occasions.

The total shortcomings mean that the total amount ends up at 1,433,500 kronor in fines. The amount is said to be deducted from the compensation that SJ normally receives from the Transport Administration for operating traffic on the route.

The night train line Stockholm-Duved-Östersund was introduced at the end of 2020.
