The new record holder is the first woman to solve the classic cube puzzle in an average time of under 4.5 seconds, reports Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.
In two different competitions in September, in Wuhan and Guangzhou, Lian set record times. She averaged 4.52 seconds first, then 4.27.
Video clips published by the BBC, among others, show the girl jubilantly lifting a giant cube. In other clips, she is seen solving the cube with her parents and next to admiring schoolmates.
Lian Yunzhi, from Chengdu in China's Sichuan province, practices the cube for two to three hours every day, her mother Li Yangxi told the Hongxing Xinwen news site.
