Six people were killed when a small plane crashed just a few minutes after taking off in the US state of Ohio, according to authorities.

The crash occurred near Youngstown-Warren airport in a heavily wooded area on Sunday morning, local time.

No one on board survived. On board were, in addition to two male pilots, two men and two women.

This is an extremely tragic situation, but it could have been worse, said Raymond Pace, head of the local rescue service, referring to the fact that there are three houses near the site where the plane crashed.

Flight tracking data shows that the plane's destination was the city of Bozeman in Montana.
