In Leland, four people are dead and about twenty injured. The shots were fired in the city center late on Friday evening, where people had gathered after an American football match with a school team.
In small Heidelberg, in another part of the state, two people are dead after a shooting in a school area. The police have not said whether it is students who were killed.
No one has been arrested for either of the shootings, which both occurred during what is called "homecoming" – a traditional homecoming weekend that often includes a school match in American football on Friday evening and celebrations during the weekend.
