Some of the victims were reportedly found in vehicles. In addition to the fatalities, at least six other people were injured.
It is still unclear from official sources what caused the forest fire, but according to witness accounts, it may have started when a power line fell and set the dry ground on fire, which quickly spread.
The forest fire broke out amid the heatwave Spain is currently experiencing. In the city of Almería, temperatures are currently around 30 degrees.
Forest fires have also raged in other parts of Spain and Europe in July, causing extensive destruction.
