Six men have been sentenced – five of them to prison – since an illegal cigarette factory was discovered in connection with a fire in a premises south of Skellefteå in July, local media report.

Emergency personnel discovered that approximately 17 tons of smoking tobacco and over 2.1 million cigarettes were stored in the building.

Now the district court has sentenced four men – three from the Baltics and one from Belarus – to between two and three years in prison for aggravated unlawful dealing with excise goods. They will be deported from Sweden after serving their sentences and are prohibited from returning.

Two men from Västerbotten are sentenced for aiding and abetting the same crime, one to one year in prison and the other to probation and 240 hours of community service.
