Sirius lose to bottom-placed Kalmar and surrender Allsvenskan lead to Hammarby

Sirius led the Allsvenskan by as many as 14 points at one stage, but that lead has now been whittled away. After a 0-1 away defeat to bottom-placed Kalmar, Sirius have lost the upper hand in the title race to Hammarby. “I’m just empty right now,” striker Isak Bjerkebo tells TV4.

With two rounds left to play in the men’s football league, Hammarby and Sirius are both on 58 points. But Hammarby have a better goal difference (37 to Sirius’ 23) and are in significantly better form.

We just have to focus on the next match. We have to get back to winning again, that’s just the way it is, says Bjerkebo to TV4.

Sirius’ top scorer calls for “more fighting spirit and energy”.

I think we have many chances, and we should have had a clear penalty too. It’s just damn boring right now, says Bjerkebo to TV4.

The penalty situation Bjerkebo is referring to was a possible handball in the second half.

“Weak performance”

Sirius flew forward in the spring, but the Uppsala team have faltered in the autumn. The loss to Kalmar means Sirius have won just one of their last five matches. Hammarby, meanwhile, have impressed, beating Elfsborg 4-1 on Friday for their fifth straight victory.

Weak performance, Sirius coach Andreas Engelmark sums up disappointedly to TV4.

After the international break, the Allsvenskan title will be decided. Sirius still have to face third-placed Djurgården at home and IFK Göteborg away. Hammarby will face IFK Göteborg at home and Västerås away.

In principle, a new contract

Kalmar, for its part, took a giant step towards securing its place in the league thanks to Amara Camara’s winning goal in the 28th minute. The team now have 26 points, six ahead of the bottom three: Degerfors, Örgryte and Halmstad. Degerfors and Örgryte will meet in the final round. What’s more, Kalmar have a significantly better goal difference than all their rivals at the bottom.

This is where Kalmar FF belongs, no question about it. Hopefully in the Allsvenskan in 2027, goalkeeper Samuel Brolin tells TV4.
