With the result, Sirius are eight points ahead of second-placed Djurgården, who beat Brommapojkarna 2-0 on Friday, with six rounds left to play.
When asked by TV4 how often he looks at the table, Persson replies:
I usually look at it quite often, although I don't usually feel nervous, actually.
Two quick goals
Before the match against fourth-placed Elfsborg, 24-year-old Persson was a surprise inclusion in Sirius' starting eleven. He had made only four starts earlier in the season, the most recent at the end of August, and had scored no goals.
After 73 minutes in Uppsala, he looked like a hero.
Elfsborg led 1-0 at half-time after Julius Beck scored in the 20th minute, but Persson stepped up.
He equalised to make it 1-1 in the 70th minute, finishing from close range after a pass from Marcus Lindberg. Just three minutes later, he received another pass from Lindberg and thundered home to make it 2-1 from a tight angle.
It’s quite difficult to place the ball from that angle, Persson tells TV4.
That's why I hit it hard.
“They are the top three”
It was a goal that made the vast majority of the 9,775 spectators at Studenternas feel a sense of pride.
But Persson was not allowed to be the hero. In the 87th minute, Leo Östman equalised for the visitors.
It would have been nice to get the win. They are a good team. I think they are one of the top three teams in the Allsvenskan right now.
