It was a tough Friday for the organisers of the Masters 1000 tournament in Montreal. Both 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic and world No. 1 Jannik Sinner announced that they will withdraw from the tournament, which will be played in August.

"We believe it is the right decision to prioritise my health," Jannik Sinner writes in a statement.

Novak Djokovic has not yet commented on why he is withdrawing.

"We respect their decision and understand that with such a demanding schedule, the players must prioritise their health," tournament director Valérie Tétreault wrote in a statement.
