The three latest Olympic Games have seen Simone Biles not only as the most successful gymnast, but also the entire Games.
Despite the failure at the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 – when she suffered from mental problems – the 28-year-old has taken seven gold, two silver and two bronze medals.
But now the last medal may have been taken – despite the next Olympic Games being at home in the USA and Los Angeles.
At the Laureus World Sports Awards, where Biles was awarded as the female athlete of the year, she hinted that her career may be over.
I really enjoy the break before I make a decision about whether I want to return and compete. Many think it's just a year of preparation before an Olympic Games, but it's really a four-year build-up, she says and continues:
It's in "LA" and the USA, which is very exciting. But if I'm going to compete again, I'm not entirely sure. I'll be there, regardless of whether it's on the floor or in the stands.
At the same gala, Swedish pole vault star Armand Duplantis was named the world's top male athlete under 2024.
