Simon Holmström Scores Twice as Islanders Beat Maple Leafs 4-1 in Toronto

Simon Holmström scored two goals for the New York Islanders as they earned a much-needed 4-1 road win over Toronto in last night’s NHL game. “Everyone played incredible,” the Swede said after the game.

The New York Islanders have not impressed in the opening stages of the season, and Toronto has struggled even more. So when they met at Scotiabank Arena, both teams had a lot to prove.

Simon Holmström made sure the visitors went home with a sweeter taste in their mouths. Although Toronto dominated the shots in the final period, the Swede put the game away. First, he stole the puck in the attacking zone and, after combining with Bo Horvat and Matthew Schaefer, the 25-year-old scored to make it 3–1. Barely four minutes later, he made it 4–1 into an empty net.

"I think we just got better and better and killed their momentum," Holmström said after the game, according to nhl.com.

The Islanders have won four of eight games so far this season. Toronto's grim record is three wins and six losses.
