At least 11 people have been killed and 12 injured in a shooting at a soccer match in the community of Loma de Flores in central Mexico, according to several news agencies.

A woman and a child were among the eleven dead, according to César Pietro, mayor of Salamanca in the state of Guanajuato.

Pietro wrote on social media that armed men interrupted the match at its end and started shooting. According to the EFE news agency, they allegedly fired at the audience.

The Guanajuato prosecutor's office is investigating the incident, and the area is being secured in cooperation with federal authorities.

Guanajuato was Mexico's most murder-ridden state last year and is the site of a violent conflict between local criminal gangs and one of Mexico's largest crime syndicates, the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG).
