Växjö's forward Hugo Gustafsson was hit by a club in the face. Now the SHL club announces that he will be away for a "relatively long time."

”He has been afflicted with a relatively serious eye injury”, says Växjö's sports manager Henrik Evertsson in a statement.

It was on Thursday evening that Gustafsson got Rögle player Leon Bristedt's stick in the face.

The 25-year-old forward had to be helped out to the locker room immediately and Bristedt received his second game penalty for the season.

”We do not think that his future vision will be affected. However, he will be forced to undergo surgery that makes playing hockey impossible for a relatively long time. We hope that Hugo will be able to play hockey again during the season but that will be shown by the future”, says Evertsson.

Rögle won the match with 5–3.
