Demand for the shingles vaccine increased sharply last year when the vaccine was also shown to reduce the risk of dementia, and as of June 24, it is available again, according to manufacturer GSK.
Erica Carlsson, head of the vaccines business area at GSK Sweden, says in a press release that she is positive that more people want to get vaccinated.
"It shows that more people realize that shingles can be a serious disease, and at the same time that vaccination is an important tool in preventive health."
According to the Swedish Public Health Agency, approximately one in three people will get shingles at some point in their lives. The agency recommends that adults with immunodeficiency and everyone aged 65 and older get the vaccine.
