After the violent crash in the American Killington last weekend, Shiffrin writes on Instagram that she will be away for "a few weeks".
I got spiked and have a stab wound and muscle injuries on my right side. I'm in the process of healing now and hope to be back soon, she says in a recorded clip.
The American star became the winningest skier in history when she took her 87th victory in the Alpine World Cup in March 2023 and surpassed Ingemar Stenmark's record.
Now she stands at 99 victories and was on her way to a jubilee – Shiffrin led after the first run – when she crashed in Saturday's giant slalom.
Shiffrin, however, escaped serious injuries.
Instead, Sara Hector won the giant slalom competition in Killington and took her sixth World Cup victory in her career.
