There were a few too many small mistakes for Cornelia Öhlund and, as the fifth-last rider, the 20-year-old rose to third. That was a position she could not maintain, and Öhlund finished seventh.
Instead, Olympic gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin took her third straight victory in the slalom World Cup, a full 94 hundredths of a second ahead of second-place finisher German-Swedish Emma Aicher. It was the American's twelfth straight podium in slalom and her eighth World Cup victory in Åre: seven in slalom and one in giant slalom. Third was Switzerland's Wendy Holdener.
The second-best Swede was Hanna Aronsson Elfman, who finished ninth. Olympic bronze medalist Anna Swenn-Larsson finished 13th and Sara Hector 22nd.
