Between Thursday and Friday, Shein raised prices on numerous products, notes Bloomberg. The average price for the 100 most popular products in the "beauty and health" category on the site increased by 51 percent – and several products on the American market became twice as expensive. For products for the home and kitchen as well as toys, the average price increase was 30 percent. For example, a 10-pack of kitchen towels increased in price by 377 percent from one day to the next.
For the time being, there is a customs exemption for shipments worth under 800 dollars – equivalent to approximately 7,750 kronor – from China to the USA. But as of May 2, it will cease to apply, following a decision by US President Donald Trump earlier in April. Then, Trump's tariffs of 120 percent will kick in on goods imported from China, or a fixed fee of 100 dollars – nearly 1,000 kronor – per shipment.
