The total order intake for Swedish industry fell sharply in April, according to fresh preliminary figures from Statistics Sweden (SCB).
The decline was 8.3% compared with March in seasonally adjusted terms. In April last year, the order intake decreased by 15.8%.
"A majority of the industry's sub-sectors showed negative development on a monthly basis in seasonally adjusted terms. The development of the total order intake was negative on both the domestic and export markets," writes SCB in a press release.
In April, the domestic market fell by 3.5% and the export market by 8.9%. On a yearly basis, the order intake from customers in Sweden decreased by 11.2% and from customers abroad by 18.0%.
"So far this year, the total order intake has been 8.2% lower than the corresponding period, January-April 2023, in calendar-adjusted terms," writes SCB.
In March, the order intake increased by 1.8% compared with the previous month and 1.0% on a yearly basis.
